Should Oregon Retract Drug Decriminalization?

The law decriminalizing hard drugs in Oregon has led to an alarming increase in drug use and related fatalities, particularly due to fentanyl. The surge in drug-related issues has spurred lawmakers to reconsider their approach, with proposals to reclassify drug possession as a Class C misdemeanor. This move would replace the current $100 citation with a month’s jail sentence, a $1,250 fine, or both. The situation has deteriorated so drastically that it’s been described as a “failed experiment” by House Republican Minority Leader Jeff Helfrich, who served as a police officer in Portland for over 25 years.

Do you think Oregon should revert the decision to decriminalize hard drugs due to the drastic increase in related fatalities and social decline?
