Former Secretary of Education Bill Bennett gave advice to parents. He said, “You need to pay attention to what goes on in that classroom, and you need to pay attention to what your local school board is up to.” He told people to run for school board. They weren’t very receptive at first, but given current events are now more interested.

How involved are you in your kids’ education?

I’m not very involved and respect the school’s ability to police themselves.
I am moderately involved and attend meetings now and then.
I am regularly involved, attend school board meetings, and ask for teaching materials and curriculum.
I am very involved, want to be part of the process, and ran for school board.
