You might think you know the most popular Christmas movies of all time, but we guarantee you’re not ready for what Rotten Tomatoes users have chosen as their top favorites!
Step aside “Elf,” “Die Hard,” and the modern adaptation of “Miracle on 34th Street,” the top-ranked Christmas movie of all time is apparently “Meet Me In St. Louis,” starring Judy Garland and Margaret O’Brien, according to the audience and critics scores at Rotten Tomatoes. Next up at #2 is “The Shop Around The Corner,” directed by Ernst Lubitsch and released in 1940. (POLL: What’s Your Preferred Way To Get Exercise: Alone Or In A Group?)
The Rest Of The Best …
“The Holdovers,” a relatively new film, is ranked #3 as far as Christmas movies go, followed closely by “Tangerine,” which is most-definitely not a Christmas film so we have no idea why Rotten Tomatoes would add it to the list. Thankfully, the original “Miracle on 34th Street” is ranked #5, and “Little Women” is #6.
The Tim Burton classic “The Nightmare Before Christmas” was rated as #7, the first cartoon on the list and one of the best musicals about the holiday season. (POLL: Do You Think That Social Media Platforms Should Be Regulated?)
“Klaus” is #8. Critics said this is a “beautiful hand-drawn animation and humorous, heartwarming narrative.” The movie came out in 2019 so it has a little time before we can say it is an actual classic. Again, Rotten Tomatoes seems to think “Carol” is a Christmas movie, which it absolutely is not. Unfortunately it takes up the #9 spot. #10 is one everyone knows: “It’s A Wonderful Life.”
