Michigan has the opportunity in 2025 to ban mentally ill from competing in women’s sports, but some are concerned it may never get to the governor’s desk.
Two bills are moving through the Michigan legislature that would stop boys who dress as girls from competing in girl’s sports, according to Yahoo News. One of the bills, HB 4066, introduced by state Rep. Jason Woolford, successfully passed through Michigan’s House of Representatives.
If passed by the Senate, HB 4066 also protect schools from all legal liability for excluding boys from trying to compete in girls’ events. “The bill allows a private cause of action by any school district or public school against any agency, political subdivision, accrediting organization, or interscholastic athletic association that violates the policy,” the Pro-Family Legislative Network told Poll2Action in an email. Some believe the bill is unlikely to pass as Democrats currently control Michigan’s Senate. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is also said to have “steadfast support for the LGBTQ+ community,” apparently more so than her support of young girls and their dreams.
