Republican Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn introduced a piece of legislation in early June that would send people to prison for up to five years if they publicly identify a federal law enforcement officer.
The Protecting Law Enforcement from Doxxing Act was introduced by Blackburn in order to make it illegal to publicly share — or “dox” — federal law enforcement officials. The bill comes as Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell felt the need to release the names of law enforcement offices, placing them, their wives and children’s lives in horrific danger from all types of criminals, but particularly cartel members and other types of terrorists. “Blue city mayors are doing everything they can to obstruct the Trump administration’s efforts to deport criminal illegal aliens,” Blackburn said in a statement shared on her Senate website. “Just last week, Nashville Mayor O’Connell and his office doxxed federal law enforcement officers after the Trump administration worked with Tennessee Highway Patrol to arrest criminal illegal aliens. My Protecting Law Enforcement from Doxxing Act would make this illegal and hold blue city mayors accountable for obstructing enforcement of our immigration laws by putting law enforcement officers in harm’s way.”
