Louisiana stepped up to protect children from online groomers in 2025, passing a bill that requires online platforms to inform parents if their child is exposed to sexually explicit materials.
“The law establishes a legal duty of care for adults interacting with minors on covered platforms, which include online platforms, video games, messaging applications, and video streaming services used by minors. It prohibits an adult from connecting to a minor without express consent from the minor’s legal representative,” the Pro-Family Legislative Network said in an email shared with Poll2Action regarding HB37.
“Violations may result in civil penalties, including fines and potential damages. The bill aims to protect minors from online grooming and exploitation by regulating adult-minor interactions on digital platforms.” (RELATED: Google, Apple Tasked With Protecting Kids In Texas)
The bill was sponsored by state Rep. Laurie Schlegel, and passed swiftly through Louisiana’s House and Senate, and now sits on the desk of the governor. It is among many laws recently passed in Louisiana that aim to help improve the quality of life for the state’s children, hopefully leading to an evolution of understanding and growth in the minds of America’s most important members.
