North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong vetoed a bill in late April that sought to remove sexually explicit content from areas in school and public libraries that are easily accessible to children.

Armstrong said the bill, which passed through North Dakota’s House and Senate, was “a misguided attempt to legislate morality through overreach and censorship,” according to the North Dakota Monitor. Many lawmakers argued that constituents want them to take action on protecting children from sexually explicit content. Lawmakers would need 32 votes in the state Senate and 63 votes in the House to override Gov. Armstrong’s veto.  (MORE NEWS: Montana Steams Ahead In Protecting Citizens From Dystopian Tech)

“When they say we can’t ‘legislate morality.’ I’m like, what in the world? Legislating morality is what all laws do!” Executive Director of the Pro-Family Legislative Network, Audrea Decker, told Poll2Action. “Is it right to steal? Is it right to kill? All laws legislate morality. It’s why the Ten Commandments are engraved in the Supreme Court and Moses holding the Ten Commandments above the Speakers Chair in Congress. We totally legislate morality.”
