High school students in Texas will now have to complete at least a one-half credit course in personal financial literacy, thanks to the passage of House Bill 27.

Though House Bill 27 details many different courses that Texas high school students will have to take, the completing of the financial literacy program is one of the most revolutionary in the U.S. As roughly 80% of Americans currently have some form of debt, according to Gemini (at the time of writing), understanding personal financial literacy could go a long way to mitigating the growth of debt amongst the next generations of Texans. Countries such as the U.K. require incredibly high standards across a plethora of sectors, including English, mathematics, science, and more to graduate and go to college at the age of 16 (where they complete at least three Associates degrees before moving onto their Bachelors at age 18), it seems like Texas is trying to compete with the nation by mandating a whole slew of new courses.
