TAKE THE POLL: CLICK HERE

A nationally representative poll of 2,100 likely voters, conducted by the Manhattan Institute (MI) in July, found that Americans prefer former President Donald Trump’s core policies on immigration and the economy.

But will this change now that Vice President Kamala Harris is running in place of President Joe Biden?

Top Issues

“Our poll finds that, overall, Trump leads President Biden in the 2024 presidential race. He also bests high-profile Democrats who could be substituted in for their party’s nomination, like Vice President Kamala Harris or Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Consistent with other polling, Harris (46% Harris, 48% Trump) and Whitmer (43% Whitmer, 47% Trump) do not significantly out-perform Biden (45% Biden, 48% Trump),” MI wrote in their analysis. “Trump has a wide lead on the issues that have been widely reported as top concerns in 2024: border security (51% Trump to 38% Biden), the economy (49% to 41%), immigration (49% to 41%) and crime (48% to 42%). He lags on abortion (42% to 46%) and election integrity (44% to 45%). Voters indicate they trust Biden over Trump narrowly on matters relating to transgenderism (41% to 47%) and racial diversity (41% to 48%), but when probed about how they feel about these topics, respondents overwhelmingly express a right-of-center policy perspective. They endorse colorblind meritocracy over race-conscious affirmative action and exhibit intense skepticism with respect to pediatric gender medicine,” MI continued.

What Does Kamala Harris Say On These Issues?

In a detailed analysis published by CNN, there were no specific quotes attributed to Harris’ opinions on the economy, though she was described as being “more progressive bent than Biden.” (TAKE A POLL: Are You Concerned About Political Corruption?)

“As a senator and 2020 presidential candidate, Harris proposed providing middle-class and working families with a refundable tax credit of up to $6,000 a year (per couple) to help keep up with living expenses. Titled the LIFT the Middle Class Act, or Livable Incomes for Families Today, the measure would have cost at the time an estimated $3 trillion over 10 years,” CNN wrote.

On immigration, Harris has tried to “counter Trump’s attacks on her” record. “The vice president has changed her position on border control since her 2020 campaign, when she suggested that Democrats needed to “critically examine” the role of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, after being asked whether she sided with those in the party arguing to abolish the department,” noting that Harris and the White House is planning “a crackdown” on asylum claims.

But apparently CNN feels Harris rarely talks about her diplomatic efforts in Central America and her effort to mitigate the crisis along our borders.
