The beautiful packaging and the feeling of unwrapping it. It’s an inside joke that only the two of us would understand. It’s something we can use and enjoy together, like a board game. It’s a set of tools or supplies for my favorite hobby.

I dive right in, experimenting and figuring it out as I go. I look for a fun challenge or a ‘game’ to make it interesting. I get the official manual and read it cover to cover first. I join a class or group so I can learn with other people.
What’s your ideal Friday night?
A big night out with my entire circle of friends. A quiet night in, making progress on a personal project. A competitive game night with a few close friends. Cozying up with a good book or a classic movie.
How do you communicate with your closest friends?
Constant updates in a lively group chat. A long, thoughtful, one-on-one phone call. Sharing links to cool things I’ve found or made. Mostly through a headset while we’re doing an activity together.
You find an old box of your stuff. What are you most excited to find?
An old handheld game I thought I’d lost forever. Yearbooks and notes passed between friends in class. My childhood drawings and half-finished craft projects. A mixtape someone made for me, with a handwritten tracklist.
What does ‘patience’ mean to you?
Working through a tricky problem until you finally find the solution. Waiting for something to develop, like a photograph or a slow-cooked meal. Waiting for all your friends to finally be free on the same night. Mastering a difficult level in a game after trying dozens of times.
You’re decorating a new space. What’s the first thing you add?
A big photo collage of all my favorite people and memories. A comfortable couch and a big screen for entertainment. A shelf to perfectly organize my collection of books or records. A dedicated desk or workspace where I can create things.
