Lakepointe Church senior pastor Josh Howerton shared a video on social media Monday (Oct. 28) where he explained five key things to consider this Halloween.
“Should Christians do Halloween?” Howerton asked himself in the video shared on Instagram. “Five quick thoughts. Okay, number one, don’t shoot the messenger but this is what Romans 14 calls a ‘disputable matter,’ and mature Christians are going to be able to disagree without division. While maybe less mature Christians will divide and devour over this issue.”
Howerton’s second point is that “Spiritual warfare,” as presumably conducted by “Satan and demons, are an active thing.” It is typically around this time of year that people start asking themselves if things like witches, tarot cards, fortune tellers, magic, and other related things, are real.

Have Fun With Halloween
“Honestly man, if your son dresses up like a firefighter and gets a Tootsie Roll from neighbor Jim, they’re doing the same thing on October 31st they’d be doing at a friend’s birthday party on the 21st. And Romans 14 says that no day is more or less holy than another.”

Most importantly, it seems: “never, ever violate your conscience. That often the voice of the holy spirit. And even when it’s not, it honors God that you’re trying.” Thankfully, as Christian, you can never be possessed by a demon. “Do not walk in the spirit of fear!” Howerton says.
