Arkansas lawmakers are currently (April 2025) deliberating HB 1554, which would force the fertility treatment industry to report accurate data on how their systems actually work.
The “Assisted Reproductive Technology Reporting Act,” sponsored by Rep. Alyssa Brown, aims to fill the gap in understanding for potentially millions of Arkansas residents currently using, or who may need to use, fertility treatments in order to conceive a child. If passed, the bill would require fertility clinics to start tracking and reporting data on the life-journey of human embryos, including how many are destroyed through the medical process. The Department of Health would also have to reveal the number of successful pregnancies and number of live births, KATV reported. “IVF clinics already report most of this non identifiable data to the CDC. We are just creating a state report so families, women, researchers and lawmakers can get a clearer picture of how well these fertility treatments work in the state of Arkansas. More amendments are expected to help clarify this intent,” Brown said of the bill in February.
