TAKE THE POLL: CLICK HERE

Most of us roll our eyes when we receive the “climate change” lecture from that one family member, but did you know that you can save money while reducing your carbon footprint, even if you’re not buying into the pro-climate hype.

Making your home more energy efficient is a great way to save money while also getting the climate gang to shut up. Draft proofing your loft area, filling unwanted gaps, and switching to energy-efficient products can cut down your costs with ease. You won’t even realize you’re offsetting your carbon footprint, according to HSBC. You can also try switching off your gadgets instead of leaving them on standby, or even drying your clothes outside can make a difference. (TAKE A POLL: Do You Enjoy Traveling During the Holidays?)

Small But Mighty Changes

Have you ever heard the phrase “buy cheap, buy twice?” Put simply, this means that buying cheaper items when you shop for products means you’re more likely to have to buy that item again as it’ll break. Cheaply made products don’t last — and they’re not always that cheap to buy.

Investing in higher quality items might cost a little more in the short term, but it’ll save you money in the long-run. You’re also less likely to have to buy more, which also helps offset your carbon footprint. (RELATED ARTICLE: Man Says Cutting Out Sugar, Processed Foods Did 4 Things For Him)

The same sort-of goes for food (though there doesn’t seem to be any cheap food anymore!). Buying local is the best way to save money, get cleaner goods, and also reduce your carbon footprint. HSBC also recommends eating less animals products — we disagree with HSBC on this point. A lot. The bank also suggested buying an electric vehicle and sustainable investing, both of which are terrible ideas that we do not recommend. Ever.
