Louisiana joined multiple other states in 2025 in designating gold and silver as legal tender, creating a gold-backed debit system for the state.

If passed, House Bill 695 would establish a gold-backed debit system that makes gold and silver usable for everyday transactions throughout the state. The bill was sponsored by Pro-Family Legislative Network member Rep. Raymond Crews, and was signed by the President of the Senate on June 10. It is now before the Governor for executive approval, which is hoped to come in the next few days.

Similar legislation has already passed and been enrolled throughout states such as Arkansas, Florida, Texas, and Missouri. Louisiana’s Bankers Association opposed the bill, as bankers in Louisiana apparently view it as establishing a state banking entity, and therefore competes with private industry, according to the Shreveport Times. Poll2Action could not find anyone to comment positively on bankers at the time of writing, nor anyone who could say they exclusively trust bankers with America’s financial future. We will report back if and when we ever do.
