Does technology hurt or help us? Yes or no? There are valid arguments for each answer and both cause complex trends for humanity’s development. It all depends on how you use technology, and what you want from humanity’s future with our current technology.
Improvements To Quality of Life?
According to Men’s Journal, fitness, nutrition, finance, relationships, productivity, housekeeping, and appearance, and so many different areas of life have apparently been improved as a result of technology. But many of these areas of life were fine before technology came along. Take nutrition for example, humans were significantly healthier before modern technology made it really easy for food companies to put whatever they want in our food.
So is technology solving modern problems caused by technology? Maybe. Some data suggests its more down to your relationship with technology. (TAKE A POLL: Do You Think Income Inequality is A Significant Issue in Our Country?)
Workplace Changes
Data published in early 2024 found that emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) software, work trackers, and other robotic technologies contribute to a negative quality of life for workers in the U.K.
“The Institute for the Future of Work surveyed over 6,000 people and examined how four types of technologies that are becoming more common in the workplace affected their well-being,” according to CIO. “The researchers discovered that workers who used three of these technologies — AI and machine learning software, wearable trackers for surveillance, and robotics — reported a lower level of health-related well-being, according to a widely used standardized measurement.” (TAKE A POLL: Is the Government Doing Enough to Address Unemployment?)
