A report published in May by The Liberty Sentinel detailed how Democrat states are targeting homeschoolers with “draconian new laws and policies” that aim to destroy the fundamental rights of families.

On April 24, the Minnesota Senate approved an amendment that the Home School Legal Defense Association warned would “fundamentally alter the state’s homeschool law,” according to the outlet. Many restrictions are included in the Senate File, including limiting who can educate children to exclusively parents and guardians. Extended families are a key part of the success of homeschools, so it is unclear why any law or ruling would prohibit their inclusion. Furthermore, home schools would be limited to a single “primary address.”

“Limiting homeschooling to a residential address is an antiquated understanding of how homeschooling works, and it eliminates much of the flexibility that makes homeschooling so great,” HSLDA added. “This bill would prevent families from taking advantage of that flexibility.” Restrictions would also be placed on alternative options for schooling, including coops, online classes, types of dual enrollment, all essentially making it extremely difficult to educate one’s child.

Parents in the state were given no options to testify against the laws, despite them applying exclusively to parents. To some, it could appear that the state feels it can do a better job raising children than Minnesota’s parents.

Not Just Minnesota

Similar laws are cropping up throughout Democrat states from coast-to-coast. Even in Republican led jurisdictions, local-level elected officials and government bureaucrats are coming for homeschoolers, the outlet continued. (MORE NEWS: Will more laws have to be written to protect parents from state overreach?)

Evidence clearly shows that children educated in home schools outperform public and private school children in every area of life, including socialization, safety, and, of course, academics. Many people are calling for an all-out ban on homeschooling despite the mountains of evidence proving that it is better for children, families, and the future of America.
