TAKE THE POLL: CLICK HERE

Texas moved to create a Commission on Marriage and Family in late May 2025 to study and hopefully mitigate the decline in traditional marriages in the U.S.

The Commission moved swiftly through the Texas political infrastructure, hitting both the House and Senate since being filed in February 2025, before being sent to the governor to be endorsed on May 28. The Commission has until November 2026 to study and develop strategies that “promote strong marriages and healthy families,” including identifying potential rules, laws, and policies that discourage Texans from getting married.

Members of the Commission include at least three members appointed by the governor, two appointed by the lieutenant governor, two from the speaker of the house, all of whom have an expertise in marriage and family formation. Members of the clergy are included in those listed as having expertise in this area. None of those appointed to the Commission will be paid for their time and input, though certain reimbursements are provided. (TAKE ANOTHER POLL: Do you like your state’s governor?)

All details on the commission meetings will be made available to the public, so we’ll be sure to bring you updates throughout our ecosystem as they’re made available.
