California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom is pushing for local jurisdictions throughout his state to do something meaningful to mitigate the “homeless” crisis that has plagued California for more than a decade.
Newsom issued a “model ordinance” in early May, providing cities and counties with guidelines on how to deal with the issue, which include banning camping in the same area for more than three days, banning equipment that blocks sidewalks, and more, according to Cal Matters. Newsom is releasing a further $3.3 billion to “communities statewide” to combat the issue, on top of the $24 billion taxpayers have contributed to tackle the crisis to-date. To-date, absolutely nothing meaningful has happened to mitigate California’s homeless crisis and the full $24 billion has shown zero results in stopping the mass migration of mentally ill and drug addicted people to the Golden State. Newsom asked for a further $6.4 billion in 2024 via Proposition 1 to “built mental health treatment facilities for those with mental health and substance use challenges,” while also providing housing for the homeless.
