Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders recently told CBS News that he thinks Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s views on the food industry are “exactly correct,” but he has concerns about other health issues.
“You have a food industry concerned about their profits, could care less about the health of the American people,” Sanders said during the interview, according to Forbes. (POPULAR RELATED POLL: Do You Think Christmas Is The Best Holiday For Food?)
“I think you have a food industry concerned about their profits, could care less about the health of the American people. I think they have to be taken on,” he continued. “On the other hand…when Mr. Kennedy talks about taking fluoride out of our water systems…the scientific community will tell you that would be a disaster…His views on vaccines are very wrong in so many ways.” Sanders did not list any of the ways Kennedy’s views are “wrong.”
Strong Concerns For Processed Foods
Kennedy may end up leading the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which oversees the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). “While his anti-vaccine views have drawn widespread criticism, his stance on combating chronic disease by ridding the nation’s food supply of harmful chemicals and ingredients broadly aligns with efforts from both sides of the political aisle and has been praised by leading public health experts,” Time magazine wrote of the potential appointment.
“He has pledged to immediately remove processed foods from school cafeterias and to strengthen efforts to combat food-related chronic diseases, an issue he believes has been neglected by both major parties,” the outlet noted, later quoting Kennedy who recently said: “We need to stop feeding our children poison and start feeding them real, wholesome food again.” (ANOTHER POLL: Would You Rather Have A Cozy Winter Holiday Or A Tropical Vacation?)
