GQ BankingRates asked a simple question in September 2024: where is the best place to live in the U.S.?
While we know we’re always No. 1 compared to other countries, there are certain towns and cities that people can’t seem to stop flocking toward. Fort Myers, Florida, ranks as the No. 1 fastest growing city in the U.S. in 2024. With a population of just 109.595, this tropical paradise is policed by one of the most popular law enforcement units (on the internet).
Killeen, Texas, ranks as the second fastest growing city in the U.S., with an average median home price of $161,449. The cost of living is also 7% lower than the national average, making it one of the most appealing places people are moving at this time of economic strife. Florida Leads The Way
Port St. Lucie, Daytona Beach, Tallahassee, Ocala, Orlando, Sarasota, Naples, Tampa, Lakeland and Miami all ranked in the Top 25 cities Americans are moving to in 2024, making Florida the most popular state — by far!
Many of the cities on the list boasted far lower cost of living than the national average, suggesting this may be a key factor in people’s decision-making. Data from Hilldrup suggests cost of living, quality or life, and remote work have made it so much easier for Americans to flee major cities. “Between April 2020 and July 2023, the South’s population increased by 3.9 million people. Cities in Florida and Georgia, and Texas cities like Austin and San Antonio, have seen major spikes in population. This trend has continued into 2024,” wrote Hilldrup in their analysis.
