NBC’s Today weather anchor Al Roker shared his favorite Christmas morning recipe in early Dec., and we couldn’t wait to share it with you too!
In an exclusive interview with Eating Well, Roker and his daughter, chef Courtney Roker Laga shared their epic-sounding Christmas Morning Cinnamon Rolls. The recipe comes from Roker’s father, who didn’t make them for Christmas. They were just a winter tradition until Roker started making them on Christmas morning for his family. “I repurposed my dad’s recipe, and I would make them the night before Christmas Eve and proof them once, let them rise once, then put them in the fridge so that once they woke up the next morning, I could take them out, and at some point during present opening, I put the cinnamon rolls in so that now the house smelled like cinnamon buns,” Roker told the outlet. “It’s a nice remembrance of sitting around the living room, around the Christmas tree, opening presents and smelling like a Cinnabon in the house.”
Other Roker Family Traditions
“I think just getting family and friends around a table and just sharing stories, talking, leaving the phones away from the table and eating—probably a little bit too much. It’s just nice having that time with the people you care about,” Roker said when asked about his favorite family traditions during the holidays. (POLL: Do You Enjoy Traveling During the Holidays?)
Then, of course, there’s all the other dishes to look forward to throughout the day. ” Growing up, my mom’s collard greens were a staple, and they’ve become a must-have on every holiday menu I create. They remind me of her warmth and love, which was infused into everything she cooked. Re-creating them now is my way of honoring the incredible woman she is,” Roker Laga added.
