West Virginia passed a law in April, which was enrolled in the 2025 regular session, requiring public schools to display America’s national motto, “In God We Trust.”
Pro-Family Legislative Network member Sen. Mike Azinger sponsored the legislation Senate Bill 280, which requires all public elementary and secondary schools, and all other state institutions related to higher education to display our national motto. The display has to appear in a common area of the main building at each institution, and will take effect in July.
The language of the bill demands the display be in a “conspicuous” area. The poster must be framed with a minimum size of 8.5 by 11 inches, and include a representation of our flag. No public funds are allowed to be used for this mission, meaning schools will have to display posters provided to them by outside sources. We strongly encourage anyone with the means of doing so to donate posters meeting these requirements to schools in West Virginia. (MORE: Do you want religious freedom laws in your state?)
