A “Saturday Night Live” sketch called “CouplaBeers,” starring host Shane Gillis, was branded “the best SNL skit in the last 20 years” by one fan, with hundreds of thousands of people agreeing with the statement.

Gillis, who was previously fired from “SNL” for a joke he wrote during the cancel culture era, is officially the face of the show’s “best skit in the last 20 years.” The sketch begins with Gillis, 37, portraying a middle aged dad who is struggling to care with or deal with his cringey day-to-day life.

As his on-screen wife and son leave the house, he turns to the camera and starts advocating for a new medication called “CouplaBeers.” He holds up a beer-can shaped medicine bottle and smiles at the screen, just like the creepy Big Pharma commercials that plague our televisions. “You wouldn’t know it, but a few months ago, anxiety and depression were ruining my life,” Gillis says. “I was struggling at work, I was struggling as a father, and I was struggling as a husband.”

Sad And Funny

Gillis’ character describes “CouplaBeers,” a prescription from his doctor, as “a revolutionary medicine that treats anxiety and depression fast. Within minutes of taking it, I’m back to my old self.” (Do You Believe in UFOs?)

“The way it works is simple. CouplaBeers quickly turns a cloudy, rainy day into a sunny one. It’s that easy. Now I’m the me I wanna be,” Gillis continues. CouplaBeers is “clinically proven treatment for conditions like boredom, depression, winter, museum, hangovers, affair, and moderate to severe Italian wife.” As he boasts the comedic “benefits” of CouplaBeers, we watch as Gillis’ life gets more and more hilariously miserable.

You really have to watch the full skit to get the full impact. It is absolutely hilarious, and suggests SNL should keep-up with this brand of comedy. What do you think?
