TAKE THE POLL: CLICK HERE

A survey published in January ranked 182 U.S. cities by how much fun they are; could one or more of these be your next go-to vacation destination?

WalletHub compared 182 cities across the country — including the 150 most populated U.S. cities — across three key areas (1) Entertainment & Recreation, 2) Nightlife & Parties and 3) Costs), broken down into 65 relevant metrics, in order to determine which were the “most fun.” Obviously, “fun” is a relative term, and means something different to each of us, so WalletHub focused on practical data.

For example, they looked at the number of attractions, restaurants and other eateries per capita, spas and wellness centers, presence of music festivals, cost of party tickets, beer prices, and the cost of living. (TAKE A POLL: Are You Satisfied With Your Work-Life Balance?)

“The most fun cities naturally include some of the most popular tourist destinations in the U.S., like Las Vegas, Orlando and Miami, but these cities are far more than tourist traps. They provide a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities for all types of interests, from sports to theaters to arcades, and they have plenty of diverse restaurants to try,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said of the study. ” The top cities offer affordable options for year-round fun for their residents, which is good for residents’ wallets and their mental health.”

Top 5 Cities

  1. Las Vegas, NV
  2. Orlando, FL
  3. Miami, FL
  4. Atlanta, GA
  5. New Orleans, LA

“Las Vegas is the most fun city overall, boasting an extremely large number of attractions and restaurants rated at least 4.5-stars. Some of the venues that are especially prevalent include spas, shopping centers, sports stadiums, festivals and arcades,” WalletHub wrote in its analysis.

Experts Offer Advice

When asked about the key to having fun while on a budget, Rutgers University associate professor Adam Okulicz-Kozaryn suggested “Nature! camping, get a tent, skip hotels, go to less dense and less frequented places like Tennessee, and Arkansas, skip Coastal California and North Jersey; and internationally go to Colombia, Cuba, and Mexico–and again skip most visited (and crowded and expensive) places like Cancun and Cartagena.” (TAKE A POLL: Do You Prefer Working From Home Over Commuting To An Office?)

“Do your research. There is a ton of information on the internet these days, so read a lot, from all types of sources. This will give you some good ideas about what is out there and help you narrow down the things that you are interested in. It will also help you figure out the things that are not worth doing,” added Boise State University associate professor Luke Fowler. “Be flexible. Have plan, but be willing to adapt.”
