Research published by the Global Work-Life Survey found that people who work remotely are far happier and more satisfied with their jobs than their in-office counterparts.
In fact, 65% of remote workers said they were “extremely satisfied” with their careers, compared to just 34% of those who have to work in an office, according to the data. “We’re repeatedly being told that being in the office is good for our wellbeing, as it is a clear separator between home life and work,” says Future Workforce Alliance co-founder Ben Marks. “Yet these findings indicate that this isn’t the case.” (POPULAR POLL: Have You Already Started Saving For Retirement?)
Remote workers also rate their happiness levels as far higher than those who are made to go into an office every day. “Remote working enables a true life-work balance, making for happier employees,” Marks added, claiming this finding wasn’t necessarily a surprise.
Benefits of Remote Work
Remote workers report less instances of burnout. Remote workers can also find greater concentration when completing tasks, often being able to do them faster and to a higher standard than in-office workers, who are often distracted by all the silly stuff going on around them.
“While remote workers are clearly the happiest according to our research, it’s important that workers establish healthy boundaries to capture the benefits of remote working,” Marks’ partner Filipa Matos noted. “This might mean creating a physical separation from work at the end of the day, establishing healthy morning rituals, or pausing notifications when not working.” (POPULAR ARTICLE: Man Says Cutting Out Sugar, Processed Foods Did 4 Things For Him)
The other huge benefit of working from home is the savings incurred from not having to commute to an office. When working at home, we spend less on transport, food, clothes, make-up … pretty much everything! But for some people, all these benefits don’t make up for the office culture.
