A study publicized by WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News in early Dec. revealed the top trending Christmas Cookies by state, and the answers may surprise you!
The study used an analysis of Google search data throughout 2024, conducted by Unscramblerer.com. “Looking at the popularity of Christmas word search puzzles we discovered a sweet trend. December fourth was National Cookie Day and Christmas is right around the corner. Which is why we wanted to find out what cookie language do Americans speak right before Christmas,” a spokesperson for the site told WBBJ. (TAKE A POLL: Do You Enjoy Traveling During the Holidays?)
“Using the right words to spread cheer and joy can bring a smile to everybody’s face. Yet nothing beats the taste of the most popular Christmas cookie. Even language nerds like us agree! Interestingly English usage of the word ‘cookie’ began in the 17th century thanks to Dutch settlers arriving to America. The word ‘cookie’ originates from the Dutch ‘koekje'(little cake). Cookies have become a cornerstone of American Christmas. Leaving cookies for Santa began during the Great Depression in the 1930s. The idea was to teach children generosity during hard times. Unscrambling Christmas we arrived at the word generosity,” the statement added.
