An article published earlier this year ranked America’s favorite Christmas foods. Some of the results really surprised us! We’d love to know how you feel.
The #1 pick for all Americans is arguably the least surprising of them all: roast potatoes. With 76% of people responding to a YouGov poll saying roasties were their favorite Christmas dish, it turns out that the meat isn’t what we’re all craving … it is the carbs! The second most popular Christmas dish was mashed potatoes. We probably shouldn’t be surprised by this one, but it did take us a little aback. Are we really such a potato-driven peoples? (Our Content & Campaign Manger is yelling in the background, “YES, WE ARE!”). Scalloped potatoes hit #15 on the list, probably because they’re way too involved to make. Potato salad ranked #20, with potato pancakes/latkes at #38.
The Weird Ones
Apparently turkey is the #3 favorite Christmas dish, which is surprising as we’ve yet to find a single person within our family or friendship groups that concurs with this ranking. The typical response to turkey is an eye-roll and a comment of, “can we do roast beef instead?” Roast beef ranked #7 on the list overall. Bread rolls came in at #4 on the list, followed closely by stuffing or dressing at #5.
Other notable rankings included tofu at #58. Something called “non-fish seafood” ranked #28, so we presume this means shellfish? Seaweed doesn’t seem like it would rank so highly in the holiday season. Fish hit a miserable #44 on the list, still holding rank over lamb (#46). The most surprising finding for us is that deviled eggs were only #22 on the list. Surely this culinary delight deserves a better spot? Then again, it’s hard to see anyone picking eggs over mac n’ cheese, cornbread, or sweet potatoes.
