Seven individuals were charged in an alleged voter fraud cause in Michigan, according to a report published in October by the Daily Signal.
Felony charges were filed against seven people from the St Clair Shores region of Macomb County, suburban Detroit, for allegedly doubling voting or facilitating such activities during the August primaries, the outlet reported. The charges were brought about by the office of state attorney general Dana Nessel, a Democrat. “It took a confluence of events and decisions to allow these four people to double vote,” Nessel said in a public statement. “Nevertheless, the fact that four incidents occurred in a municipality of this size raised significant concerns and is simply unheard of.”
Mayor Speaks Out
St Clair Shores Mayor Kip Walby said Monday that the charges never should have been filed against the individuals. “There was no intent here. There was no intent for voter fraud, not at all,” Walby noted. “If the attorney general really thinks it’s voter fraud, she should come down and interview them, and if she does, she will understand this is not voter fraud. These people did not intend to defraud the system, so she should come and interview these people.”
The case was previously investigated by Republican Macomb county prosecutor Peter Lucido, who declined to bring criminal charges. (TAKE A POLL: Is the Two-Party System Beneficial for American Democracy?)
